My Story
My path to where I am today was not linear. I was told I wasn't supposed to graduate high school or be able to live independently on my own. But I didn't actually know that, or even hear about that, until I was already in graduate school earning a PhD. So, what allowed me to excel in spite of what was "supposed" to be? Three things...

-
Strong Standards: My parents did not accept mediocrity. Excellence was expected.
-
Support System: I have always been blessed to have a good support group of friends that helped me to manage symptoms.
-
Spiritual Strength: I really do have God on my side and I absolutely and totally rely on Him to make the difference. This is especially true during the days where I am experiencing inconsistency in my performance. I truly believe that I live by grace.

Also, let me answer some quick questions...
-
Was it always easy for me? No, my first graduate advisor told me "You don't have what it takes to make it in my lab. I need you to leave."
-
Was my trajectory the same as everyone else? No, it took me three times in graduate school before making it out successfully.
-
Did I ever have haters? Yes, my first chair made it clear he did not want me to succeed.
Needless to say, my path to becoming my vision and serving my purpose was not as I expected it would be. But, I learned this: "Trouble comes and trouble goes, it does not come to stay." That's why it is so important to never step back from becoming your vision, to surround yourself with those who always believe in you, and to lean into living by grace. Achieving the God-given vision that He has given you can sometimes be difficult and long in coming. And it starts with being able to answer the question "Do you know your purpose?" If you are still trying to find your purpose, if you are still looking for a path to your main platform that you are supposed to serve on, if you are still becoming your vision, then reach out because we are here to support in every way we can.
